Type 2 diabetes is a common condition where the body does not produce enough insulin or the insulin produced does not work effectively. This leads to increased blood glucose levels. Symptoms include frequent urination, excessive thirst, and increased hunger.
If not properly managed, diabetes can cause long-term complications such as nerve damage, kidney problems, eye issues, foot complications, and an increased risk of heart disease.
Linajen 5 contains Linagliptin, which belongs to the class of dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitors used Linajen 5 is prescribed for the condition of type 2 diabetes when diet and exercise alone cannot control their blood sugar levels. It works by blocking the action of DPP-4 helps produce more insulin only when required, and reduces the blood sugar level when not needed‚ Linajen 5 should not be used in patients with type 1 diabetes and for the treatment of diabetic ketoacidosis. Use with caution in patients with known hypersensitivity to Linagliptin or any excipients
Linagliptin is a DPP-4 (dipeptidyl peptidase-4) inhibitor that enhances the levels of active incretin hormones, including GLP-1 and GIP. These hormones stimulate insulin release from pancreatic β-cells in a glucose-dependent manner and reduce glucagon secretion from α-cells, helping to lower blood glucose levels.
Recommended dose: Linagliptin 5 mg once daily
When combined with metformin, continue the metformin dose and take both medicines together
When used with a sulfonylurea, consider reducing the sulfonylurea dose to minimize the risk of hypoglycaemia
Renal impairment: No dose adjustment is required
Can be taken with or without food at any time of the day
Linajen is a weak inhibitor of CYP3A4 and does not significantly affect other CYP enzymes. It has no clinically significant interactions with metformin, glyburide, simvastatin, warfarin, digoxin, or oral contraceptives.
